Privacy Policy of Lexemica Dictionary

Introduction

Welcome to Lexemica Dictionary (the “App”), a learner-focused dictionary that provides contextual definitions, examples, pronunciation, CEFR levels, and grammar explanations. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the App or visit dictionary.lexemica.com. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.

Data Controller

The App is owned and operated by Mario Martinez (Spain). You can contact us at[email protected].

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): Optional analytics, cookies on the website, and error/crash reporting (e.g., Sentry) only when you opt in.
  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): We process your email and the content you submit (e.g., words/sentences) to provide core functionality (lookups, explanations, account access).
  • Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve stability and performance using aggregated or pseudonymized data.
  • Legal Obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): To comply with applicable laws and requests from competent authorities.

Information We Collect

Account Data

If you create an account, we collect your email address for passwordless authentication via “magic links.” We do not store passwords.

User Inputs

Words and sentences you type or paste into the App (“User Inputs”) to get definitions, translations, or grammar explanations.

Usage & Device Data

Technical data such as device type, OS version, app version, language/locale, time stamps, in-app events (e.g., feature use), and diagnostic logs. IP addresses on the website may be truncated or anonymized where feasible.

Cookies & Similar Technologies (Website)

On dictionary.lexemica.com we may use essential cookies (to run the site) and, if you consent, optional analytics cookies. You can control cookies via your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

Payments

Purchases are processed by the relevant app store or payment processor. We receive limited information (e.g., transaction status) but do not store full payment details. Your use of those services is governed by their terms and privacy policies.

Crash/Error Reporting (Sentry)

To improve stability, we may use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., 132 Hawthorne St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). With your consent, when an error occurs we may send diagnostic data such as: active screen, anonymized event IDs, error traces, device/OS version, and recent log messages. This helps us reproduce and fix issues.

How We Use Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve core features (definitions, examples, pronunciation, grammar explanations, CEFR levels).
  • Authenticate you via magic links and manage subscriptions.
  • Monitor performance, fix bugs, and enhance reliability and security.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
  • With consent, perform analytics and error diagnostics.

Sharing and Disclosures

We do not sell personal data. We share data only with:

  • Service providers acting on our behalf (e.g., hosting, email delivery, error reporting) under data-processing agreements.
  • App stores/payment processors for purchases and subscription management.
  • Authorities when required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

International Data Transfers

Some providers may process data outside the EEA/UK. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other lawful bases under the GDPR.

Data Retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above: account/email and subscription records while your account is active and as required for compliance; diagnostic logs for a limited period; and aggregated/anonymous analytics may be retained for trend analysis. When no longer needed, data is deleted or anonymized.

Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect data (encryption in transit, access controls, least-privilege practices). No system is 100% secure; please notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

Your Rights (EEA/UK)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g., AEPD in Spain). To exercise rights, email [email protected].

Your Choices

  • Manage cookies via your browser and website consent banner.
  • Opt in/out of optional diagnostics (e.g., Sentry) in the App settings where available.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails (if any) via the link in the email.

Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 12. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the minimum age required by local law. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

Data Breach Notification

If a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify you and the relevant authority when required by law.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will provide reasonable notice (e.g., in-app notice or on this page). Changes take effect when posted. Your continued use of the App means you accept the updated Policy.
